Speed is an essential issue in photography. Not only is the optimal setting of aperture and shutter time important, also the focus needs to be in place when you release the shutter, and with today’s high resolution sensors large amounts of data must be processed and saved to the storage media quickly. And when the action picks up speed, so shall your camera: don’t miss a shot with high-speed shooting.

The E-3 is equipped with 11 fully biaxial autofocus points. Paired biaxial sensors that detect contrast on both the horizontal and the vertical axis are arranged in a hound’s tooth pattern to ensure maximum precision and superb AF performance even in low-light conditions. Eleven paired biaxial sensors effectively provide the AF engine with a total of 44 different data points from which to calculate the correct focus. With the new Supersonic Wave Drive integrated in three lenses, AF speed made a quantum leap. The new professional lens ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 50-200mm 1:2.8-3.5 SWD for example is 2.5 times faster in autofocusing than the model without SWD. Together with its kit lens, the ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-60mm 1:2.8-4.0 SWD lens, the E-3 not only offers an ultra-precise AF, but also the world’s fastest autocus system to date. Of course the SWD autofocus increases speed for all camera models. Your E-System is ready when you are!

In continuous shooting, you don’t want to miss a moment. With speeds of at least 3 frames per second, all current E-System cameras are equipped to do the job. In a professional camera, the expectations are even higher. That’s why the E-3 provides you with 5fps, capturing 16 RAW images in a row. The buffer for JPEG images is even higher and only limited by your card capacity. As you don’t like to wait on your camera processing before you can carry on shooting, Olympus further improved image processing with the new processing engine TruePic III, incorporated in the E-3, E-410, E-420 and E-510. It can cope with high data volumes, just as you can with pressing the release button.

With the E-System you enjoy high-speed and high-precision shutter control. High amateurs can vary their release time between 1/4000 and 60 seconds and 8 minutes in bulb mode. Photographers using the E-3 can shoot as fast as 1/8000sec. for at least 150,000 exposures.
In x-sync mode, the E-3 is as fast as 1/250sec., other E-System cameras warrant a speed of 1/180sec. In TTL modethe E-3 allows for 1/8000 sec.,the others for 1/4000 sec.
Image quality always has been the core competency of the Olympus E-System. Starting from the scratch, cameras and lenses were designed to capture the light perfectly. Many new inventions support this goal, so that you have not only a perfect set of digital lenses, but also find the latest in sensor and image processing technologies included in your camera. In the E-3 and E-510, Olympus managed to also include a virtual tripod against camera shake.
